The nasal drops can only be used for three days

Use nasal drops for up to one week

The most uncomfortable thing about colds and fever in life is the blockage of the nose. For patients with rhinitis and sinusitis, it is easy to get sick in a changeable day. The first thing to do is the blockage of the nose, which not only affects breathing, but also can't sleep well at night. Many people are used to go to the drugstore to buy a bottle of nose drops. If you drop a few drops, your nose will be more comfortable.

Jiang Weihong, associate professor of Otorhinolaryngology Department of Xiangya Hospital, cautioned that the nasal drops with unobstructed nasal cavity must be used with caution. It is better not to use them in daily life. In principle, they should not be used for more than 3 days or for more than 1 week.

There are five kinds of commonly used nose drops

First, vasoconstrictors: the most commonly used ones are ephedrine hydrochloride nasal drops and rhino Ophthalmol, which can constrict mucosal blood vessels, eliminate congestion and swelling of nasal mucosa, relieve nasal congestion and improve ventilation, with rapid and lasting effect.

Second, anti allergic nasal drops: such as ephedrine diphenhydramine nasal drops, ephedrine cortisone nasal drops, disodium cromoglycate nasal drops, etc. diphenhydramine and cortisone have anti allergic effects, can reduce the congestion, edema and exudation of nasal mucosa caused by allergic reactions, mainly used in patients with allergic rhinitis.

Third, antibiotic nasal drops: for example, ephedrine neomycin nasal drops can inhibit the growth and reproduction of bacteria, reduce congestion and smooth ventilation, which can be used for patients with nasal obstruction and purulent discharge.

Fourth, nasal mucosa irritants and lubricants: commonly used irritants include compound peppermint oil, 1% iodoglycerol, etc., which can make the blood vessels of nasal mucosa expand, secrete more, relieve dry symptoms, restore the function of mucosa, and can be used for atrophic rhinitis; The commonly used mucosal lubricants are clear cod liver oil, paraffin oil, compound weak protein silver coated nasal cream, etc., which can promote mucosal lubrication, play a mechanical protective role, and have a certain therapeutic effect on dry rhinitis.

5. Mucosal corrosives and sclerosing agents: mainly 5% silver nitrate, pure carbolic acid, etc., used to treat local erosion and bleeding of mucous membrane.

Vasoconstrictors increase blood pressure

The first kind of vasoconstrictor is mainly used to clear the nasal cavity. It is suitable for acute rhinitis, sinusitis, chronic rhinitis, acute attack of sinusitis and temporary uncontrollable nasal congestion caused by nasal abscess after trauma. For patients with hypertension, coronary heart disease, atrophic rhinitis is contraindicated, because ephedrine has the effect of promoting hypertension, it may aggravate the condition, and vasoconstriction often makes the nasal cavity of atrophic rhinitis dry.

Nose drops are not recommended for children

In principle, the nasal drops of vasoconstrictors are not used in children's nasal congestion, because children's blood vessels are not well developed and their mucous membranes are fragile, which is more likely to cause drug-induced rhinitis. Associate Professor Jiang Weihong suggested that when the child has ventilatory disorder, 5% salt water can be used for nasal drip. If the nasal congestion is serious, 1% ephedrine hydrochloride nasal drip should also be diluted to 0.1% to 0.5% to reduce the side effects.

The biggest side effect of vasoconstrictors is to repeatedly contract the blood vessels in the nasal cavity, so that the elasticity of the mucous membrane or cilia in the nasal cavity decreases, and it also has a certain dependence. Just like taking painkillers for headache, it's better to use nasal liquid for nasal obstruction only in case of emergency. Some people think that traditional Chinese medicine nose drops have no side effects and are safer, but they are not. Some traditional Chinese medicine nasal drops, such as nasong, which also contain ephedrine, should be used with caution.

At the same time, Associate Professor Jiang Weihong told us not to stand when dropping the medicine, but to directly drop the medicine into the nasal cavity, so that it is easy to enter the mouth. The right way to drop the nose is: lie flat, hang your head in the air, lean back as much as possible, put your head to the left when the left nasal cavity is blocked, slowly drop the medicine along the outside of the nose, and keep the medicine in the nasal cavity for about 2 minutes.
